In the lead up to Christmas, the Royal Australian Mint is partnering with newsXpress, to provide greater access to Donation Dollars for charitable use at this important time of year.

The Donation Dollar is an official circulating coin designed to be given, not spent or kept. The Royal Australian Mint will produce 25 million Donation Dollars, one for every Australian. If every Australian donates one Donation Dollar a month, an additional $300 million every year can be raised for those who need it most. To date, the Donation Dollar has raised an estimated $1.9 million in donations to charities and people or businesses in need since it launched in late 2020. If you are a charitable organisation, holding a fundraising event or simply looking to help increase circulation of Donation Dollars in your local area, you can now access the Donation Dollar at a newsXpress agency, dollar for dollar.

To inspire charitable donations across Australia, this program aims to ensure that Donation Dollars are widely available in circulation for all to access.

How does it work?

Swing into a newsXpress and you can request to exchange dollar for dollar, the hardest working dollar in Australia, the Donation Dollar. The Donation Dollar is intended to inspire charitable donations in your community and with 25 million set to be in circulation, we’d encourage you to keep them moving and doing their good work.

If your local store is not a participating outlet or are they out of Donation Dollar stock? All newsXpress stores can order/re-order Donation Dollar coins from the Mint, so just let your newXpress store know how many coins you want.

Will other coin swaps become available through newsXpress?

We are trialling this program to get Donation Dollars out and into the hands all Australians for charitable use across Australia. This program will not extend to other circulating coin releases.

Why hasn’t the Mint explored this option for other circulating coins while the roadshow was shut down?

The Donation Dollar is a unique coin created to be given not kept or spent. Newsxpress has partnered with the Mint to help make these coins accessible to all Australians to encourage charitable giving.

Why now?

The Mint has developed this program in answer to feedback from charities and charitable organisations, as well as members of the public, who have reported that these coins are still scarce in circulation.

Is this a dollar for dollar exchange?

Yes, the Donation Dollar is available at face value.

Do limits apply?

No limits will apply. With 25 million of these coins to be in circulation, there will be one coin for every Australian.

Why can I get these in a Sachet from newsXpress but the Mint isn’t offering these as a coin swap or direct purchase through the Mint?

The Mint has partnered with newXpress who have a large national retail footprint, making Donation Dollar accessible to all Australians.

Why can’t the Mint offer coin swaps online or in the shop?

The Mint remains committed to resuming our valuable outreach program and reconnecting with our collectors in person in early 2023. Coin swap programs will remain an in person process to enable Australians access to circulating coins in the manner they were intended to be used.

Will newsXpress be offering other circulating coin swaps?

No, newsXpress will only offer Donation Dollars.

Will these sachets be available through the outreach program?

No, due to the charitable intention of this coin, the Mint will not be offering Donation Dollars for coin swap and collection.

The marketing program has been that we can only get these coins in our change – why has this changed?

The Mint has partnered with newXpress who have a large national retail footprint, to help make Donation Dollars accessible to all Australians.

Is this a coin swap or is this coin in change?

This is a specific distribution program aimed at supporting giving. Upon request at participating newsXpress agencies, customers can exchange a one-dollar coin(s) for a Donation Dollar(s).

I’m a charity/service organisation and can’t access these through newsXpress as they’re out of stock, but can see people are selling the sachets on eBay for an increased price.

Your newsXpress store can order/re-order these coins from the Mint. There will be sufficient stock of these coins to service all charitable needs. Coins can be delivered in 5-7 business days from order receipt to any newsXpress store in Australia.

Why are these coins on eBay? Is this allowed?

eBay is a registered online trading platform. Some people may look to take advantage of those unaware of the distribution program with newsXpress. The Mint, along with newsXpress and all kind hearted individuals encourage people to remember this is the one coin you don’t want in your collection and there is no need to buy one as you can simply swap your dollar for a Donation Dollar.
